2-6 Southampton Row

With rooms designed by the flamboyant French interior designer Jacques Garcia, this highly luxurious boutique hotel will provide the city with an exciting new destination for the business community and tourists.

Converted from a former Baptist Church, the project involves refurbishment of a five storey Grade II listed building, including a vertical extension to provide an additional two floors and the renovation of the original chapel into a multi-purpose space for conferences and weddings. The hotel will also accommodate 41 suites, a restaurant, banqueting suite and library.

The project will take place over two phases. Phase one involves the structural and building fabric construction and phase two, the hotel fit out.

The sequence of works is split into various sections, allowing McLaren to progress certain areas without affecting the main structural works and extensive temporary works around the main new lift core.  The internal fit out will start at the first floor and will work up through the building.  This sequence is dictated by the main structural works to the roof, which will take place once the main steels are installed.

Fixtures and fittings will include dark wood paneling and upholstery in sumptuous fabrics of deep rich colours and elaborate patterns. A major feature of the fit out includes a spectacular chandelier ornately decorated with amber coloured birds (a recurring theme throughout the hotel) that rise centrally through the renovated original staircase.
