McLaren’s work on this stunning landmark building, the largest Learning Skills Council funded scheme in the UK will deliver brand new, state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities in an inspirational building.
The City of Westminster College, is regarded as the Learning Skills Council’s ‘flagship’ project and is being seen as a benchmark for future college developments across the UK. Construction will be complete during November 2010.
At the heart of the scheme, in the West London regeneration area of Paddington Green, is a dynamic inner atrium, a central galleried space to act as the building’s ‘hub’, a circulation and meeting space filled with natural light and leading to adjacent areas providing academic and practical teaching facilities, open learning centre, meeting rooms, administrative accommodation and fl exible seminar spaces.
Schmidt Hammer Lassen’s design was selected from around 100 entries across Europe on the basis of its “sustainability, sensitivity to the surrounding urban environment and its inherent understanding of modern educational requirements”.
