Asda Grangemouth was McLaren’s first development for ASDA in Scotland and the third distribution centre.
The project was a new build 496,877 sq ft ambient distribution centre with external hard and soft landscaping.
The building required 4,721 pre-cast driven piles, at an average of 27m deep.
The initial stages of the project included an extensive tree felling exercise, site clearance, removal of asbestos and the demolition of the current ICI sports club and recreational areas allowing for the construction of the new distribution centre.
Early enabling works to fell the forest area was required to allow archaeological investigation to expose the remains of a medieval house (Kerse House), dating back to the 1400s. The buried remains were recorded then removed.
Construction works consisted of major bulk earthworks, structural steel frame, composite cladding, 60 dock levellers, 24 level access doors, external fuel stations, tanker washers and gatehouse.
There was also extensive combined cycleway and footpath improvement works to the perimeter of the site.
