Broadcasting Facility and Campus
This project involved the construction of a three storey, state of the art broadcasting facility complete with satellite platforms. Construction works concluded in December 2011 and broadcasting goes live in April 2012. Our works included both the construction of the new build facilities and also the refurbishment and upgrading of existing studio facilities.
The new extension houses editing suites, voice over booths, UPS room, CAR room, news rooms, offices and staff facilities such as the cafeteria. The refurbishment works included major structural modifications and subsequent reconfigurations to the existing studio and production rooms; and also a range of broadcast related support facilities including a new reception and various Make-Up and dressing rooms. A main control room and gallery control room have also been constructed along with ancillary buildings including Outside Broadcasting facilities.
This was a complex project involving extremely close co-ordination with the on-site users of existing broadcast facilities located within Abu Dhabi’s busiest Media / Broadcasting campus. Much of the work had to be carried out outside of normal hours, and detailed protocols had to be integrated in order to manage services switchovers without disrupting broadcasting operations. Material logistics and the safe movement of people were also key factors. Through close collaboration the project team were able to quickly and safely find solutions to some very demanding technical challenges.
The integration of new Building Services with the existing systems also demanded a very detailed degree of planning. Testing and Commissioning, especially of the Failsafe requirements associated with state-of-the-art broadcasting technology, were also precisely defined and executed within extremely fine tolerances.
