McLaren Construction is very pleased to confirm it is the chosen contractor awarded with a £34m contract to construct a distribution centre on behalf of Gazeley Properties. The distribution centre is the largest built in England in the last two years and will be the first national distribution centre for the end user Waitrose, part of the John Lewis Partnership.

The scheme comprises a 938 449 sq ft distribution centre on 44.7 acres of land inclusive of two storey offices, together with goods in and out office areas and significant external works comprising section 278 highway works, vehicle wash and fuel islands.

The works also involve extensive earth works with over 600, 000 m3 of material kept on site to be moved and prepared within the initial 14 week period. There will also be extensive landscaping to the ‘linear park’, the name of the area of the site which will be handed over to the Park Trust on completion.

Works commenced on site on 17 March and are scheduled to be completed to suit a demanding 32 week programme with an early access date at the of week 27 for Waitrose to commence their fit out works.
