During these challenging times as the world battles COVID-19, one thing that has become increasingly clear is the critical importance of the industrial sector to our national and international supply lines.

The sector is also encountering rapid evolution. New technology, new market entrants, increasing demand due to COVID-19 and advanced business models means we are redefining how we deliver these projects, some ideas are evolutionary, some revolutionary.

Our track record in the industrial and distribution sector is strong and where it all began for us. Now, using lessons learnt from our experience combined with this new level of focus, we are moving forward with real energy and recently secured two key projects. These are the £25m distribution facilities at Omega Park in Warrington and a new £20m temperature-controlled distribution facility at Manton Lane in Bedford.

Project 1 – Mountpark Warrington Omega

Leading logistics property company, Mountpark Logistics, has appointed McLaren to build two new high-spec distribution facilities at Omega Park in Warrington. The 735,000 sq ft development is the second phase of Mountpark Warrington Omega at a gateway site to Omega South, and will be made up of three logistics centres of 307,000 sq ft, 203,000 sq ft and 225,000 sq ft.

Omega South is part of the 575-acre mixed-use Omega scheme at Junction 8 of the M62, north of Warrington. Each building will include rooftop solar panels which will meet around 50% of the facility’s regulated energy. The first two units are due to complete in January 2021.

Project 2 – Manton Lane, Bedford

Equation Properties has instructed McLaren to build a 140,000 sq ft warehouse at Manton Lane in Bedford. The works include the construction of a new purpose-built temperature-controlled distribution facility for AF Blakemore.

The new site which will house, ambient, chill and frozen chambers will complement A.F. Blakemore’s existing network of distribution centres and provide the business with additional supply-chain capacity to support targeted growth across its retail, wholesale and foodservice divisions.

A word from our new Industrial & logistics Director David Gavin

Both project wins have been secured as we promote a new Managing Director for the Industrial and Logistics sector. With over 17 years of unrivalled experience in the company and many more within the sector, David Gavin will be wholly overseeing this important division for McLaren construction. His promotion provides developers, investors, agents and end-users with a sector-focused leader and a dedicated point of contact moving forward.

David commented:
“My team and I look forward to working with valued customers such as Mountpark Logistics and Equation Properties as we enter this new phase of our business, pushing forward to increase our pipeline of work in this sector that could grow exponentially over the next decade after Brexit and COVID-19.

David Gavin

We are constantly responding to the needs of the market to create an offering that combines end-user requirements with sustainable, innovative construction techniques. These two recent wins for McLaren represent a continuation of our efforts to secure and deliver important work in the region, and in the sector. The new facilities, along with many others to come, will help prepare Britain for life after leaving the EU and beyond.”
