The new Dawson Building within Brighton College Boarding House provides students with four additional floors of accommodation and break out areas. McLaren completed the programme on time, allowing students to move in ahead of the autumn 2013 term.
McLaren was appointed to extend student accommodation within the college. The new extension consists of brick and flint façades to match the existing college buildings. Architectural metalwork hoop reveals around the triple glazed windows replicate the old stone surrounds on adjacent buildings.
Student accommodation is provided in one, two and three bedroom dormitories with each student having their own study area. The third floor includes a stunning new common room with kitchen area and dormer windows looking out over the college courtyard.
The building achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
