Situated just three miles from Chester town centre, Broughton Shopping Park is a popular shopping destination with a wide variety of retail food and fashion outlets. McLaren was appointed to supplement the existing retail units with a new cinema and restaurant development.

The new development comprises five restaurant units and an 11 screen cinema auditoria incorporating a ‘baby’ IMAX cinema. Around 55,000 sq ft of lettable floor area is created by a steel framed structure primarily clad in solid composite cladding panels to suit the cinema use.

Structural glazing and wood veneer cladding is used in the main elevation of the restaurant units, providing a contemporary feel. A spacious, hard landscaped area in front of the building allows for external seating and planting areas, promoting a lively and active public realm.

To ensure that the exact requirements for acoustic performance were met, McLaren worked with acoustic engineers who specialise in cinema design, integrating them into the team so they could ratify the design work.  McLaren’s experience in completing similar cinema projects has proved invaluable.

Works include the remodeling of existing car parking, improved pedestrian routes and upgraded recycling facilities.
