Urban waterfront regenerators, Waterside Places, recently joined together with partners, Grainger plc and McLaren Construction, to mark a significant milestone at the first phase of homes being delivered at Hale Wharf, Tottenham Hale, with a traditional ‘topping out’ ceremony.

The event – which celebrates construction reaching its highest point – was attended by representatives from the Mayor of London’s office and the London Borough of Haringey, along with representatives from the partners who are delivering this phase of the scheme.

Hale Wharf is being delivered by Waterside Places – a strategic joint venture between Canal & River Trust and one of the UK’s most innovative urban regenerators, Muse Developments, in partnership with the Mayor of London and London Borough of Haringey. The wider scheme is one of the Mayor of London’s Housing Zones, and with 505 homes being delivered, Hale Wharf will make an important contribution to the mayor and the Greater London Authority’s aspiration for 2,000 new homes in the borough.

Mike Auger, director at Waterside Places said: “It’s a proud moment for everyone involved with the scheme, as we come together to celebrate the incredible progress of the first phase of homes here at Hale Wharf. The excitement is building further, as we now look forward to welcoming new residents at what we truly believe will be one of most diverse and mindful neighbourhoods around.

“Successful developments that bring forward real transformational change are delivered through a collaborative approach which is really showcased in this project and its focus on social value.”

The first phase of the development consists of 249 new homes, 108 for rent through Grainger plc, with the remainder earmarked for sale through Waterside Places. A new pedestrian bridge over the River Lee Navigation will be built, providing convenient access to Tottenham Hale Underground station, along with stunning canal-side public realm to benefit what will be a vibrant new community. Sales for the 141 homes through Waterside Places, known as Rise, will be launched in February 2020.

Helen Gordon, chief executive officer at Grainger plc, said: “We’re delighted to reach this important milestone, bringing us another step closer to the delivery of this fantastic new scheme. Working in partnership with Waterside Places and McLaren is enabling us to deliver these much-needed high-quality rental homes at pace. This development further strengthens our presence in Haringey, building on our existing cluster of 359 homes, providing well connected homes with access to green spaces across the borough.”

McLaren Construction started working on site in 2019 to deliver the first phase at the scheme and have also worked closely with partners to deliver a number of social value activities to benefit the wider community.

John Butten, McLaren’s managing director – major projects, said: “We are pleased to celebrate the topping out of Hale Wharf in Tottenham Hale with customers Waterside Places and Grainger plc. Linking in with the local community of Haringey is key for McLaren and we look forward to playing an important part in the development of an inspiring new place for north Londoners.

“We have committed to employ 30% of our workforce through local labour, generating jobs for local people and feel proud to have been able to contribute to so many community engagement initiatives in the local area through the Tottenham Charter.”

The first phase is due to complete Summer 2021, when it will welcome new residents to a vibrant, new community.
