McLaren Construction and Derwent London held a topping out ceremony at the famous London site, Turnmill, which is currently being developed into new exciting office space.
The Turnmill building has taken on many forms throughout the years. It was originally built as multi-storey stabling and storage for horse drawn Hansom cabs, complete with spiral ramp inside. More recently its cavernous basement was the long time home of the famous 24 hour Turnmills nightclub. Derwent London won planning permission for a new building replicating the sturdy masonry character of the old building as it sweeps round the corner on to Clerkenwell Road.
This 70,500 sq ft on site development comprises 58,200 sq ft of offices, which have been pre-let to Publicis Groupe, and 12,300 sq ft of retail. The Clerkenwell area will benefit from the arrival of Crossrail at nearby Farringdon station in circa 2018.

McLaren Construction has built a strong relationship with Derwent London and is currently undertaking Derwent’s residential project, Queens, in Bishop Bridge Road. McLaren hopes to further strengthen the relationship and continues to be part of their exciting, remarkable projects. The Turnmill development is due for completion in summer 2014.
