Our in-house Environmental Team delivers through expertise, passion, and a deep respect for the natural world. We understand the intrinsic link between the built environment and the landscapes, habitats, and communities around it. That’s why we take a comprehensive approach to environmental management, supporting our Project teams and subcontractors throughout the entire project lifecycle, from concept to completion.
We’ve developed a robust management system, compliant with ISO14001, which ensures accountability, data integrity, and best-practice delivery across every project. By staying ahead of evolving regulations and providing targeted training, we equip our teams with the necessary tools to protect the environment and deliver excellence. Through ongoing education and awareness, project teams understand their responsibility for adopting environmental best practice. Building great spaces never comes at the expense of the planet, and we’re committed to always building better.

McLaren is committed to protecting and enhancing flora and fauna across all projects, embedding ecological management throughout the project lifecycle. Ecological considerations are integrated from early tender and feasibility stages through to construction and postcompletion, ensuring habitats are assessed, preserved, and enhanced in collaboration with specialist consultants.
Where applicable, McLaren complies with and promotes Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), aiming to exceed the statutory 10% requirement. Our approach includes arboricultural management, invasive species control, and the protection of legally protected species, supported by clear site controls and ongoing monitoring.
We work closely with subcontractors, ecological specialists, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and deliver lasting biodiversity benefits.

Water is a primary vector for pollution. It’s incredibly important that we monitor this in our projects. We monitor water consumption, quality and discharge during a build through sampling, adhering to environmental regulations, minimising pollution and managing water resources sustainably. We’re proactively assessing any contamination risks to water receptors, identifying risks at the planning phase.

Waste is one of the most considerable challenges the construction industry faces. Under the Environmental Protection Act, we’re accountable for waste across our business through proper management practices. Critical to our responsibilities is the waste hierarchy, which prioritises prevention, reuse and recycling. We reiterate this hierarchy throughout our business and supply chain through delivering training and conducting audits, which maintain accountability for the proper disposal of waste and documentation of waste transfers. By taking ownership through active communication and collaboration, we reduce environmental impacts and maintain our exceptional standards.

At McLaren, we are lucky to work in a diverse array of environments and communities. And our commitment to them is vital to everything we do. Engaging these stakeholders is critical to the overall success of our business, and we achieve this in several ways.
As part of the True Build Partnership, we’re dedicated to making the industry a better place and respecting the communities in which we work.
Beyond this commitment, we provide employees with two volunteering days a year, enabling them to give back to and engage with their passion projects.
