Sector specialists are essential at the design development stage to understand how the curriculum impacts construction planning. We focus on curriculum-aligned construction, ensuring that the design of educational spaces supports specific learning outcomes and fosters an effective, adaptable environment for teaching and learning.

McLaren appointed to the

DfE Framework

The Department for Education framework launched on 30 November 2021, and McLaren has been appointed a key supplier based on our track record and experience in the education sector.

This appointment represents a step change in our targets, providing an opportunity to grow our portfolio of projects and enhance our expertise and skills for the benefit of all educational institutions.

Key elements of success

Recent partnerships include projects with Hackney LEP, delivering six primary schools and 226 residential apartments. We have also worked with Brighton College to create a new academic block, student accommodation, and a sector-leading sports and science facility.

Collaboration with stakeholders is vital for planning and communicating the joint vision. Our signage and visual displays convey messages about aspirations, progress, wayfinding, offering students, their parents, and staff the opportunity to fully engage with the project while keeping them safe at the same time.

We understand the requirements for working in live campus and school environments. Our invisible approach goes hand-in-hand with curriculum-aligned construction, minimising disruption during key times such as exam periods. When needed, we will operate through holiday windows.

We aim for no interaction between construction and day-to-day activities on-site, safeguarding people and prioritising the student experience. And we maintain a full-time Safety Manager on site in every live environment who provides weekly and daily updates.

We don’t operate a one-size-fits-all approach for sports structures in the educational setting. Instead, we tailor individual solutions that reflect unique priorities and budgets.

We plan the installation strategy in conjunction with key mechanical, electrical, and plumbing items, as well as high-risk product specifications, particularly for swimming pools and complex leisure areas that require extensive condensation control.

To avoid defects, we assist the architect in defining the precise structure and fixing details to ensure a perfect fit, with lighting services and flooring designed for seamless installation.

Laboratories and technical classrooms require careful and detailed planning during design and construction. Our buildings provide students with a cutting-edge learning environment to optimise educational outcomes.

Our experience in laboratory construction informs each new project, providing a design and build solution tailored to the unique needs of your staff and students.

MMC utilises modularised designs integrated with standardised elements, delivering value-driven solutions for all levels of education. Coupled with our extensive knowledge, we can provide solutions which have evaluated all the advantages and disadvantages of installation, cost, and programme outcomes.
