Looking after our people and communities

Construction employees

We empower people to challenge the thinking, resolve any perceived health, safety and wellbeing risks, and be leaders in an environment that is free from harm.

Our number one priority is to keep people safe. It’s our duty to ensure our colleagues, contractors, and anyone who interacts with our environment is free from harm and gets home safely to their loved ones.

It’s why we embed safety into everything we do, and we foster that culture throughout. Our Work Safe Home Safe program promotes a safety and wellbeing culture across all projects, and means we all uphold the very best safety standards.

We have been a front-runner in adopting systems that ensure everyone working on our sites has the right skills, knowledge, experience, and behaviours required for their roles. With a strong track record in building safety, we ensure that all mandatory training is rigorous, comprehensive, and fully completed.

Work Safe Home Safe

Our cultural safety programme

Jason and Shane, our Heads of Health, Safety & Wellbeing, explain why this is McLaren’s top priority. They’ll share how our Work Safe, Home Safe programme supports a culture where everyone is protected, competent, and committed to the highest safety standards – getting everyone home safely, every day.

Evolving what we do. The route forward

Looking ahead for the next few years, we’re on a fast-track trajectory to make continued improvements to how we operate. Our safety performance to date is right up there with the very best in our industry, but there's still room for better still. In particular we’ll be focusing heavily on digitisation and data gathering, informing our trend analysis and driving all our initiatives.

Work Safe, Home Safe.

Three core values underpin our Work Safe, Home Safe programme, and every colleague at McLaren has a responsibility to ensure these meet our already high standards.

Mental wellbeing at McLaren

Construction is a rewarding and varied industry, but it also brings significant pressures. Those working in the sector are more likely than average to experience work-related stress and other mental health challenges. For many of our people, speaking up about difficulties or seeking support from colleagues hasn’t always felt easy.

Thankfully, this is changing. More construction businesses, including ours, are recognising the vital importance of mental health and wellbeing. With an expanding range of resources, information, and training available, it’s now easier than ever to prioritise mental health. We are committed to placing wellbeing at the core of our culture, providing initiatives and support mechanisms accessible to everyone across the business.

Wellbeing in our communities

The built environment plays a vital role in shaping wellbeing. From offices and schools to neighbourhoods, businesses and cultural centres, the spaces we create have a profound impact on the lives of local people. Well-designed buildings lift spirits, support better health, and foster strong, thriving communities.

Equally, the construction industry has a significant influence on the wellbeing of its work force. Just as we are committed to operating responsibly and reducing our environmental impact, we must also protect and promote the wellbeing of those who work in our sector. Pushing boundaries to eliminate harm and prioritise wellbeing is as important as ever.
