Job Description

The Sustainable Procurement Lead will drive responsible sourcing and ensuring that materials and services align with the highest sustainability standards. Key responsibilities include collaborating with suppliers to reduce carbon emissions, promoting the use of sustainable and circular materials, and minimising waste across all phases of construction. The Sustainable Procurement Lead also ensures compliance with industry sustainability benchmarks, verifies supplier performance, and integrates sustainability considerations into procurement decisions, supporting the project’s overall commitment to sustainable construction practices.

Responsibilities

  • Finalise Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions data at McLaren.
  • Collaborate with the Sustainability team to establish methods for measuring and reducing Scope 3 emissions.
  • Embed sustainability into Procurement and supply chain decisions, incorporating it into tender evaluation criteria and continuous improvement targets within supplier contracts.
  • Promote and support Procurement efforts to reduce consumption, minimise waste, and increase circularity, such as reducing packaging specifications and using greener materials.
  • Create communication materials to support these initiatives, including supplier communication packages, supplier days, and webinars for key categories.
  • Establish contracts with key manufacturers to drive innovation and prioritise sustainability initiatives.
  • Develop guidelines and templates to support site implementation, including supplier self-assessment and on-site audit questionnaires.
  • Integrate platforms such as Constructionline and EcoVadis.

Requirements

  • Fully literate in the different carbon scopes while being able to clearly articulate to a range of audiences.  
  • Ensure that accurate and clear sustainability data is captured and reported across the supply chain.
  • Proven ability to implement sustainability.
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with subcontractors and manufacturers performance for construction projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in sustainability in construction.  

Qualifications

  • Will have relevant degree in Sustainability/Geography/Environmental Studies or appropriate qualifications.  
  • Professional membership of the IEMA.
