Co-op Distribution Centre
The Co-operative is one of Britain’s largest supermarket chains. Its Distribution Centre in Andover comprises a 450,000 sq ft warehouse and office accommodation.
McLaren was responsible for developing the 115-acre site and infrastructure around the location.
Key points
Phase one included the construction of the single-storey distribution centre, which houses frozen food, chilled and ambient chambers, and 45,000 sq ft of office accommodation over two and three-storey units.
McLaren also carried out extensive infrastructure works to enable the Co-operative to establish the centre within its chosen location. This involved liaising with Hampshire County Council, the Highways Agency and statutory authorities in order to carry out the necessary roadway realignment and construction of a new bridge over the A303.
Other external developments included a hard-standing lorry parking facility, a vehicle maintenance unit and site landscaping. The development achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and high praise from the customer.
