Westminster City Council has appointed McLaren Construction (Regeneration) as the main construction partner for the second phase of the Ebury Bridge redevelopment in Knightsbridge and Belgravia. Through the contract approval, the council has agreed a phase two budget worth £229m for the overall construction of the development and the delivery of this significant milestone for the scheme.

Ebury Bridge is the council’s largest regeneration project transforming an existing 1930s estate, shaping the public realm and creating new communities and a sustainable neighbourhood. Phase 2 of the project comprises of three independent and two adjoined buildings, which required four complex building safety applications to the Building Safety Regulator, which McLaren successfully submitted and had validated by the regulator.

To deliver the council’s plan for the project McLaren is using modern methods of construction, prefabricating the façade elements to significantly reduce the transport of materials to site and the carbon footprint of the development.

The Ebury Bridge development will see the biggest delivery of new council homes for social rent in Westminster in over 60 years, delivering 779 homes, 373 for social rent, across three phases. Phase one of the scheme completed in December 2024, with 226 homes delivered, 100 of which were for social rent. Phase two will be delivering an additional 334 homes, 228 of which are for social rent.

It will re-establish the Ebury Bridge Road retail parade, provide new premises for longstanding local businesses, and introduce new independent shops, community supermarkets and cafés. New pedestrian routes will open-up the estate, improving connections from Ebury Bridge and through to the River Thames.

Paul Woodhams, Managing Director for Regeneration at McLaren Construction, comments: “McLaren has a strong track record in building complex residential and regeneration projects in London while creating positive social impact for local communities, and we will work collaboratively with Westminster City Council to bring their vision to life for phase 2 of the Ebury Bridge project. Having invested time and resources in the preconstruction period, the design has been completed to a high standard ahead of the main construction work starting later this year.”

Construction is due to complete May 2029.
